Sunday is a day when we turn to nature and explore how nature can nourish us. The morning will be spent with Lucy the Wild Cooke, she will take us on a small walk around the farm and reveal some of the secrets of the hedgerows.

We are natural beings and our whole evolution has been alongside plants, for the vast majority of that huge sweep of time it was wild plants. Our domesticated plants are far from as nutrient dense as their wild cousins, and our ancestors knew and understood the properties of these, much of this knowledge has been lost. The same is true of our connection and instincts within nature. Sunday seeks to address some of these issues.

Foraging

The day will start with a welcome chat followed by a walk around the farm where Lucy will explain the properties of various wild plants and how they can be used in the kitchen or as medicine.

Lucy has run a few foraging workshops at Havenhills over the last two years. She is an engaging teacher and imparts her extraordinary knowledge with humour and a look at the bigger picture around these fundamental skills we have lost.

We will sit down together for a buffet lunch which will comprise various dishes using the best of the seasonal produce we grow at Havenhills with a touch of the wild about it using locally foraged ingredients..

Nature Connection

Sunday afternoon is going to include two sessions devoted to connecting to nature. Recent science has revealed what we have instinctively known - that being in nature is good for both our physical and mental health and chemicals in nature can be as helpful as taking antidepressants.

As natural beings, we are inherently connected to nature on a cellular level. It's time to re-establish clear communication with the natural world.

Join Katie Rothwell and Rebecca Lambourse as they each guide a session in the garden and field and offer tools to help you find ways for connection. A walk in nature is never going to be the same again after this day.
