Learn how to lay a hedge with an expert

We are super-fortunate to have the amazing Laura Ealam with us to run this fabulous course. You will learn all the skills you need to lay your own hedge (or indeed the hedge of a friend or relative) with consummate ease!

Laura is a traditional Hedgelayer and Coppicer based in Malvern. She has a degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology and has worked for a number of conservation organisations- The Heart of England Forest, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and Natural England. Laura’s passion for hedgerows and woodlands led her to set up “Laura’s Woodcraft”, a business specialising in traditional hedgelaying and coppice wood products. She has delivered a number of hedgelaying training courses in the West Midlands and is passionate about sharing this heritage craft with people.

Saturday 28th February 2026

This one-day practical course will offer a beginner friendly introduction to hedge laying using hand tools- from preparing a hedge for laying, to ‘pleaching’ stems, building stems into stakes and finally weaving binders.

All tools (and a willing hedge) will be provided but we will expect you to arrive in your finest gardening togs...

– Wear warm and waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear.

Tea and coffee will be provided and a delicious lunch awaits those who attend.

We look forward to you joining us.
